Update on Spam.

Spam sucks. There are things going on here that I can't wrap my head around at the moment, so in the meantime, I leave you with the three most interesting bits of spam I've received lately:

"Unless you become as little Children, you can't see casinos. All you need is faith and trust... and a little bit of casinos."  (This gem was submitted by "Fred".)

"The fact is, there is a single source of all your problems, casino unhappiness and self-doubt. It's called casino - the hidden part of your mind that stores all painful experiences and then uses them against you."  (Thank you for this poetry, "Online Gambling".)

"If you?ve ever felt there was something holding you back in life, ruining your plans and stopping you from being who you want to be, you were right. We call it internet casinos."

Because I always felt like my plans were being ruined because I wasn't frequenting internet casinos.  Maybe I'll start gambling online and I can start being who I want to be.

A pox on all spammers.  A pox, I say!

That was the most random sliver of spam i have heard in a while. I get these ones that promote buying stocks online. With subject lines like "found himself to visit to attack first name, of the Visual record".
A pox i concur.

I've been getting some weird spam lately, too, although I won't open mine. The subject lines are weird enough.

I hope that your head gets wrapped around whatever it needs to be wrapped around.

Hope all is well in the world of Kerri...

Kerri,

Most anti-spam software uses bayesian filters. They "learn" by scanning every email and determining the characteristics of spam and non-spam email.

Spammers have started inserting test from other sources to trick these filters. You've probably noticed that a higher and higher percentage of your spam has large blocks of text like that in it. That's because those types of email are great at tricking the filters.

An IT guy told me today that 75% of all Internet traffic is spam. How crazy is that?

I wonder if whoever wrote that was drunk or typing in their sleep. It's so disjointed, LOL.

That inspires me. All I get is offers of viagra, which I find rather insulting. Anyway, I hear that online casinos can pretty much take care of the viagra department.

Spam is a kick in the pants. They are getting too creative for my blood - I don't want to have my spam trying to soothe or inspire me. It's creepy. ;)

And Kieran, I get offers for Viagra, too. They startle me just as much as the offers for "young hot xxx teens in Norwalk!" (For the record, I am interested in neither.) How the hell do these spammers know where I live?

I think the reason spammers know where you live is because of your IP address. It's linked to Norwalk so there's probably some technical way of finding you. I know when I go to Myspace or even some other random sites, they automatically advertise random blogs from Portland, Oregon, even though I'm not a member or haven't typed anything.

Spammer stalkers. Geez. What will they think of next?

Kerri, Can you fix that so it says my name and not yours. I think I thought I was typing in the comments field or I was thinking your name or something when I typed that. I really wasn't trying to pretend to be you. Sometimes I type so fast that I'm not even looking at where I'm typing... I need to be more observant.

It's also 8:45 a.m. and I've only had 6 hours of sleep every night this week. It's probably just the sleep-deprivation getting to me. Ugh. Sorry.

I fixed it. Thanks for the head's up!
