D365: Day 90

Oh, the lovely hospital room!  But I haven't had a chance to take a belly shot in ages, and since I'm bored out of my freaking skull, I figured now was as good a time as any to show the progress of my enormous bump.  (And to show off my puffy hands.  Be thankful you can't see my ankles.  Actually, I can't see them either.)

Baby girl is in there, getting bigger by the day.

D365: Day 89

These are the compression boots that the hospital has given me to wear when I'm in bed.  They fill up with air in stages and help massage the fluid out of my legs.  They aren't terribly uncomfortable, and after wearing them for an hour or so, my ankles start to reappear.

Basically, I'm doing whatever I can to feel human again.  Even if it means literally tying myself to the damn bed.

D365: Day 88

My mother asked my nephew to draw me a picture to "cheer me up" at the hospital. He took it upon himself to draw a picture of aliens shooting a guy straight through the gut. You know. To cheer me up. ;)

He's silly. He's nine. I adore him.

D365: Day 87

The hospital sucks.  But Eddie Izzard makes it all okay.

D365: Day 86

My father brought this plant to the hospital.  And it scares the hell out of me.

March 26, 2010

D365: Day 85

I'm in the hospital for the rest of my pregnancy, thanks to a diagnosis of preeclampsia.  :(  Not happy.

Also not happy that these Heparin injections are now a thrice-daily part of my new routine.

See also:  not happy.

(The needles are kind of cool though, because they auto-sharps themselves, which I think is jazzy.)

D365: Day 84

I think she knows that the hospital stay is looming.  Because all this cat wants to do is snuggle.

March 24, 2010

D365: Day 83

With all the baby gifts and girly stuff that went on at the baby shower, my aunt decided that there needed to be some "manly things," so Chris didn't feel all ruffled and pink'd out.

Which is how we ended up with this parachuting alien in our house.

March 23, 2010

D365: Day 82

Unfair.

This was one of the items at the baby shower that ended up at my house.  A big ol' jar of Hersey Kisses.

Pretty.  Delicious.  Tempting.  Nom nom nom.

March 22, 2010

D365: Day 81

What did my grown-up husband, the father of my baby girl, want for his birthday?

A remote controlled helicopter.

So that's what he received.  And now the cats are lying in wait, anxious to see this thing fly around the apartment again.

March 21, 2010

D365: Day 80

My wonderful family threw a beautiful baby shower for Chris and I (and BSparl), and somehow I didn't end up with a single picture of me and my mom together.  But I did get one of my college roommates and I.  :)

March 20, 2010

D365: Day 79

What does it take to make my husband happy on his birthday?  Why, a cake topper that includes Cookie Monster wearing a Larry Bird jersey.

Like you do.  :)

March 19, 2010

D365: Day 78

I have always found the bottles of 25 test strips completely wasteful, so I'm stoked to see that Lifescan has started to package 50 of their strips into one bottle at a time.  The environment thanks you, Lifescan!

March 18, 2010

D365: Day 77

I have a Multiclix, and Sara(h) has lectured me countless times on how it's superior to my lancing device.

So why am I still using this thing?  I can't seem to stop.  It's my preferred pricker!!

March 17, 2010

D365: Day 76

Due to this nagging headache I've had, I've been popping Tylenol for the first time in ages.  Unfortunately, Tylenol makes the Dexcom bug out, so I had to pull the sensor and take a break for about a week.  Thankfully, the headache is starting to subside, so I'm back on the Dexcom wagon.

D365: Day 75

It's so cheesy, but every time I see a package of crayons or markers, with all of the assorted colors, I think of the diabetes community.  We do have this common thread of living with this disease in one way or another, but we are all so, so different.

Pretty badass, if you ask me.

March 15, 2010

D365: Day 74

We work hard, albeit from home.  See?  That tie says BUSINESS.

March 14, 2010

D365: Day 73

The emergency room bracelet.  That night wasn't totally miserable - just took a long time to get from start to finish - but we're ready to do whatever it takes to maintain this high-risk pregnancy and get BSparl here safe and sound.

(Also, the bracelet is in lovely, IDF blue.  So that's something.)

March 13, 2010

D365: Day 72

This candy bar, courtesy of my dLife baby shower (for reasons that take waaaay too long to explain here), has been in my fridge for ages.  And I'm determined to keep it there for "just in case" emergencies, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to devour it within the week.

March 12, 2010

D365: Day 71

We registered for a lot of serious baby stuff, like the stroller and the car seat, etc.  But this was a top choice of my husband's, and I can't blame him.  Cookie Monster freaking rules, and BSparl will be a fan, like it or not!

March 11, 2010

D365: Day 70

The Animas insets have these coiled little tapes that snake around the sticky adhesive of the set.  You have to peel these off before you can apply the set to your body.  After a set change, these end up mostly in the bathroom garbage, but sometimes I leave them on the counter by mistake and they look like a reptile infestation.

March 10, 2010

D365: Day 69

BSparl and I, rocking the 32 week mark.  That's eight months, in pregnancy terms, but there are STILL TWO MONTHS TO GO how is that freaking fair?

March 09, 2010

D365: Day 68

I Googled "home remedies for pregnancy edema" and several sites mentioned boiling coriander seeds into a crappy tasting "tea"; and downing a hot cuppa.

Ew.  It tasted like I was drinking boiling water from a cup that hadn't been washed properly, but I'm willing to try anything to retain possession of my ankle bones.  :)

March 08, 2010

D365: Day 67

Thumbs up for wrist braces, that make me feel like a complete dork but I'm hoping help to make this hand swelling/carpal tunnel crap relax a little bit.

March 07, 2010

D365: Day 66

This book came in the mail, courtesy of my friend Jessica Apple from www.asweetlife.org.  Her brother is the author, and I'm very excited to check out this book.  From what I can tell, it's going to be a little different from the fruit comparisons found in What to Expect When You're Expecting.  :)

March 06, 2010

D365: Day 65

This bag is where I stash my backup supplies.  Couple of infusion sets, few reservoirs, bottle of Humalog, and some test strips.  Oh, and batteries. And an insulin pen.  And usually a real pen, too, but I'm not sure why that always ends up in there.

Either way, it's convenient to have a new bottle of strips or a pump set up handy, without having to dive into the Supply Closet o' Diabetes Crap.

March 05, 2010

D365: Day 64

Floss much?  Yes, yes I do.  And being pregnant,  I'm flossing every damn day to help keep my gums healthy.

March 04, 2010

D365: Day 63

I hate dealing with insurance bills.  They've been coming in by the dozen lately, since I've been going to the doctor all the time.  I hate explaining, time and time again, that yes, I'm pregnant, yes, these tests are necessary, and yes, you need to do your job, Insurance Company and Mail Order Pharmacy, because I'm sure as F not paying for your mistakes.

March 03, 2010

D365: Day 62

I have random quarters stashed all over the house, just in case the battery in my pump needs a-changin'.

March 02, 2010

D365: Day 61

I like having a full stash of test strips.  Testing as often as I am these days, I'm blowing through these suckers like a champ.

March 01, 2010

D365: Day 60

The planets must be aligned perfectly and hell must have a sheen of frost over its landscape, because for some reason, my basals and my boluses, and my tireless testing, have given me a full day between 60 and 140 mg/dl.  That brings me JOY.
