D365: Day 21

My best friend made me buy this at CVS a few weeks ago because I had left my meter at home and we were heading out for a long day.  It now lives in my bathroom cupboard, and every time I look at it, I'm reminded of a soldier, at the ready, but rarely called upon.

A purple soldier.  Of course.

D365: Day 20

This is my favorite book from my childhood (as you can see by the cover that's been painted with ... dirt? chocolate? ugly nail polish?), and I read it to my daughter all the time.

It's about making your own way, despite being slightly misunderstood.  The pages are fragile and it's more worn and loved than the day it was purchased, but the words are crisp.  And the illustrations are beautiful. As is the sentiment.

D365: Day 19

What's unfair is when cookies masquerade as fruit.  Cruel and unusual punishment, that is.

D365: Day 18

Going home is always bittersweet, but now that there's a little bird waiting to see me at home, I couldn't wait to land.  I missed my kid, and my husband.

D365: Day 17

No you canNOT go away on vacation and not leave a trail of test strips.  Diabetic impossibility!

D365: Day 16

Two of my friends and I ventured off to Punta Cana for a few days of beach, bars, and relaxation.  After several months of extensive work travel, two intense years of diabetes-meets-motherhood, and a lot of chaos, I needed the vacation.  Oh, it was awesome.

D365: Day 15

Landing in Punta Cana!  Dexcom sensor on one leg, infusion set on my lower back.  Viva la hardware!

D365: Day 14

I'm not sure who actually owns this photo, but since I'm in it, I'm using it. :)  This is a shot of the bloggers who attended JDRF Government Day(s), with CEO Jeffrey Brewer.  (Sprinkles the Unicorn not pictured.   Because I am an adult.)

D365: Day 13

As a person with diabetes, I don't exactly travel light.  A large collection of equally large shoulder bags has haunted me since college.  I'm running out of room in my closet.

(What cracks me up is that in each bag is a test strip.  The variety is varied, but I never manage to get them all out of a bag when I retire it for a few weeks.)

D365: Day 12

I usually change my infusion set in the bathroom, and for the last week or two, I've been throwing the used Inset into a random drawer.  It amazes me how quickly this stuff piles up.  And how dependent I am upon it.

D365: Day 11

Happy birthday, Chris!!  Here are your low-carb, low-sugar, I'm-lying-about-the-low-carb-and-low-sugar Cookie Monster cupcakes.  Love you.

D365: Day 10

Disgusting diabetes day.

D365: Day 9

Chris and I attended the Rhode Island JDRF Hope Ball in Newport over the weekend, and it was a very inspiring event.  But we forgot to take any pictures.  So this one, that we took while driving over the bridge, will stand to represent our evening.

D365: Day 8

My editorial assistant, Abby, and I visited the "Diabetes:  A Deeper Look" exhibit at the Boston Museum of Science last weekend.  More on this later via blog post, but for now, let me just say that it was pretty damn interesting walking through a pulsing blood vessel.  :)

D365: Day 7

This thing looks like a trident.  Like Poseidon would wield against his arch nemesis.  But alas, it's just the clippy-inny-thing that connects the tubing to my insulin pump infusion set.

D365: Day 6

While I was trying to edit a vlog post for the Animas site, BSparl discovered that the computer has a camera.  That she can look into.  And wave to the baby in the reflection.

She presses all the buttons.  She licks her hands and presses them against the screen.

This computer probably only has a few weeks left to live.  ;)

D365: Day 5

A whole pile of people with diabetes, celebrating life and friendship while they house cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcakes.  (Thanks to Dayle and Chris for putting this wonderful meet up together!!)

D365: Day 4

Kerri (me), Amy Lilly, and Eileen standing on the steps of the House of Representatives in Washington, DC.  We advocated on behalf of people with diabetes who live in Rhode Island like it was our job.  Because ... it is.

D365: Day 3

Oh Sprinkles ... you're always boosting Scotty's Diet Coke.

D365: Day 2

There are a hundred different reasons why I want to keep my diabetes well-controlled, but right there, in a dress that's some combination of "cow," "dalmation puppy," and "clown," is the biggest reason of all.

I love that kid.  She inspires me to be the best, healthiest mama I can manage to be.

And it doesn't hurt that she has cheeks I want to nibble on.

D365: Day 1

Coffee and I go way, way back to when I was a breakfast waitress in college, slinging eggs and refilling people's coffee mugs while wishing away hangovers.  (College was a fun, but exhausting, time.)  Now, I start the coffee up each morning while I make BSparl's bottle.  My, how things have changed.

I used to have to take a 1/2 of a unit of insulin to cover my coffee, but for whatever reason, I don't see the spikes anymore.  Maybe it's my post-baby hormones?  Maybe it's because my muscle mass isn't at the same proportion as before?  Maybe ... maybe?
