A glass of wine.  Yes.  And that is the Little Nutbrown Hair (from the Guess How Much I Love You book) with its ass in the air back there.  Don't ask.

My first attempt baking gluten-free bread.  It tastes like a blend of cupcakes, bread, and yogurt.  Not too bad.

D365: Day 40

When I was pregnant, pineapple was the food I craved the most.  Now, my fruit of choice is either a ripe mango or a delicious papaya.  (Which I ended up hooked on when Chris and I honeymooned in the Dominican Republic.  One of the best vacations ever, that one.)  Fruit, for some people with diabetes, makes their blood sugars go berserk, but for me, fruit has always been friendly.  Thank goodness.  Because I eat a ton of it.

Target, you make me low every. Stinking.  Time.  It's like the pipe insulin in through the air ducts.

Only a fellow mom-to-be PWD would understand the need for cupcake wrapping paper.  :)  Thank you, Lindsay, for the lovely gifts!!

We practiced making cupcakes for BSparl's birthday.  And my little friend helped as best she could.  By wearing cupcake tins as hats.  Obviously.  :)

Diabetes has a way of working itself into just about everything.  In my jewelry box sits my old, fractured Dexcom transmitter.  Right there, lookin' all fashionable and whatnot.

D365: Day 27

When this washer and dryer set were delivered, just after we bought the house, I had to read the owner's manual to figure out how to use the damn thing.  And when the "finished!" chimes first sounded, I thought we had an ice cream man in our neighborhood.

Alas, we don't.  But the clothes were dry.

This epitomizes exactly what sucks about diabetes.  Four awful lows turned into five wicked highs, and it took hours for me to feel better again.  Diabetes sucks.  A lot.

Chris and I attended the Rhode Island JDRF Hope Ball in Newport over the weekend, and it was a very inspiring event.  But we forgot to take any pictures.  So this one, that we took while driving over the bridge, will stand to represent our evening.

D365: Day 8

My editorial assistant, Abby, and I visited the "Diabetes:  A Deeper Look" exhibit at the Boston Museum of Science last weekend.  More on this later via blog post, but for now, let me just say that it was pretty damn interesting walking through a pulsing blood vessel.  :)

D365: Day 6

While I was trying to edit a vlog post for the Animas site, BSparl discovered that the computer has a camera.  That she can look into.  And wave to the baby in the reflection.

She presses all the buttons.  She licks her hands and presses them against the screen.

This computer probably only has a few weeks left to live.  ;)

D365: Day 2

There are a hundred different reasons why I want to keep my diabetes well-controlled, but right there, in a dress that's some combination of "cow," "dalmation puppy," and "clown," is the biggest reason of all.

I love that kid.  She inspires me to be the best, healthiest mama I can manage to be.

And it doesn't hurt that she has cheeks I want to nibble on.

D365: Day 1

Coffee and I go way, way back to when I was a breakfast waitress in college, slinging eggs and refilling people's coffee mugs while wishing away hangovers.  (College was a fun, but exhausting, time.)  Now, I start the coffee up each morning while I make BSparl's bottle.  My, how things have changed.

I used to have to take a 1/2 of a unit of insulin to cover my coffee, but for whatever reason, I don't see the spikes anymore.  Maybe it's my post-baby hormones?  Maybe it's because my muscle mass isn't at the same proportion as before?  Maybe ... maybe?
